Unfortunately, this week all of the shows I have highlighted are a little bit further than Baltimore. Monday through Thursday are all shows that can be found in DC, but hopefully I can sell you on what DC is offering.

Monday, February 10th: SHARON JONES & THE DAP KINGS - Doors at 6:30PM - The Lincoln Theatre

The first time I heard Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, I was working at a music store and we had a DVD that rotated music videos every three hours. At this time, the DVD was rotating "100 Days, 100 Nights", when I first heard this song I found myself dancing up and down the aisles of my store because I loved the beat so much. I also thought to myself, my parents would be so proud that I found a band that they might actually enjoy.

When I first heard her sing, I felt like I was 10 years old listening to an oldies station with my parents and was so surprised that great music like this was still coming out. Her album got me to venture out and check out what many other artists had to offer. You should know, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings are so good that they have two shows in DC this week, this is just the first night! If you're unable to make it, you can always go down Tuesday. She would best be described as 1960's soul music that will make you want to get up and dance.

Opener for the night: Valerie June

Tuesday, February 11th: SHONNA TUCKER & EYE CANDY - 8:30PM - Hill Country BBQ DC - NO COVER!

Now, the best thing about this show is that there is no cover. You can go see Shonna Tucker & Eye Candy for FREE. Granted you have to drive a little further to get to it, but I'm sure it will be a great show. If you're unfamiliar with Shonna, she was apart of the Drive By Truckers and now she's got herself a new band, with her singing lead all the time. All the music I've heard so far is completely beautiful, her voice reminds me of Loretta Lynn and Alison Krauss combined. More on the Alison side. She released her first album with Eye Candy this past October and this is her first time in the area for the album. She'll definitely be around this week, so if you get the chance, go check her out!

Wednesday, February 12th: THE BABY GRAND - Doors at 7:30PM/Show at 9PM - The Velvet Lounge

The Baby Grand is also known as Miguel Tenicela, he's been playing a ton of shows in the area but it's been a while since I have seen him perform. He's performing in DC that night, but watch out I believe it's 18+ attendance. He's a singer-songwriter from the DC area who writes warm songs about his life. He's currently planning to put out a new EP but it's costing him a little more than expected. He's to fly out to LA to record with producers who have also mixed albums of bands such as Boys Like Girls. If you're interested in donating, you can find the donation website here. If you get the chance, check him out in DC. I'm sure he'll have some stuff for sale there and you'll be able to hear some of his music live!

Openers for the night: Jumpcuts, MaryJo Mattea from Two Dragons and a Cheetah

Thursday, February 13th: DRU HILL - Doors at 6PM/Show at 8PM - The Howard Theatre

Dru Hill is one of my favorite Maryland based artists, probably ever. Whenever I hear their songs on the radio, which isn't that often anymore, I'm in a whole new mood. I've been able to see them twice and they never disappointed. The first time I saw them I was impressed because the set was longer and there was so much going on. All of the members did solo sets as well. I would love to have seen that again, maybe one day! If you have the chance, check them out live. They definitely still got it.

But if you're reading this article and you don't know who Dru Hill is, you better figure it out. You probably know who Sisqo is, but I need you to go deeper because Dru Hill was the best and still doing it! I mean, how can you not dance every time you hear, "How Deep Is Your Love"?

If this article has told you anything is that there are a ton of shows to check out in the surrounding areas and that's not even the beginning of it. As usual, I have included a list of other shows in the area to check out at the bottom of this article. If you want me to know about a show, please e-mail me directly at missalexasunshine@gmail.com.

Remember when parking anywhere, lock up your vehicle and hide all your valuables. If you don't do this, you might be hurting yourself in the end. I feel like this should be common sense, but just in case you don't have that, here's your advice.

More advice, this is my opinion of where you should be. All information listed for the above shows was taken directly from the venues respective websites. Prices, times, and more can all change - so please check out the websites before heading down to the show!
