This holiday season looks to be wonderfully satisfying for gamers hungry for some new titles. The portable systems are getting their fair share of games, as are, of course, the console games.
First on the list is Halo 3 ODST, the X-Box 360 exclusive. This brand-spanking new game in the Halo series is a two disc affair. The first disc is the main story mode, which you can play by yourself or with up to three other players. A new feature in the game, (and new to the series), is the Firefight mode, a survival game much in the same vein as Call of Duty 4's Nazi zombie mode, in which hordes of enemies are sent at you in waves in increasing difficulty. The second disc in the package is the multiplayer game mode, with the original Halo 3 maps and the Halo 3 map packs, plus three new maps. If you need an FPS fix, pick up Halo 3 ODST for the X-Box 360, which will be available 09/22/09.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade, for the Wii, is another must-have title out soon. Side-scrolling brawlers are rare in this day and age, and even rarer is a side-scrolling brawler with so much polish and absolute beauty that it truly raises the bar artistically for other games in the genre. Just one look at any of the games' screenshots speaks volumes on the developer Vanillaware, and the work that went into making the game. Dazzlingly beautiful model designs and backgrounds, fun and simple controls, three difficulty modes, and the ambient beauty of Japanese myth and art, in one spectacular Wii package. Really, what are you waiting for? Out on 09/08/09, Wii owners must get their hands on this game; it is too beautiful a title to pass up.

Thirdly comes Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, for the PS3. The original Ninja Gaiden 2 for the X-Box 360 was chock full of brilliant, visceral action, and was brutally hard to boot. Unfortunately, it was glitchy, unbalanced, and lacked the polish that Ninja Gaiden Black did. Sigma 2 looks to polish up the entire story campaign, and then some, by including three (yes three) new characters, (Momiji, from Ninja Gaiden DS, Ayane, of the Dead or Alive series, and Rachel from the previous Ninja Gaiden title), plus new weapons, and several new bosses. Not interested yet? Well how about an online multiplayer mode, where you and another player can tackle special missions together and fight to your hearts content? Out 09/29/09, be sure to keep this PS3 exclusive in your sights.
