March begins on Monday and brings with it interesting events which local goths might find entertaining. Be sure to put the following on your calendar if you haven’t already:
On Wednesday, March 3, Trustus Theatre will host the second installment of its cabaret series, NYC Cabaret Comes to Columbia. Developed as a fundraiser in celebration of the theatre’s 25th anniversary, the series features one New York cabaret phenom per month, ending in May.
March’s special guest is award-winning cabaret singer Cait Doyle, who only recently blasted into the Manhattan scene, performing her successful comedic show, “Hot Mess in Manhattan.” The opening act will be none other than Natalie Brown and Columbia Alternacirque, which guarantees an evening full of vintage artsy bliss. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. and lasts until 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. For directions to Trustus, click here.
Alas, Friday, March 5 is the day for which many of you have been waiting weeks, months, and in some cases, years! If you don’t have a clue what happens on the big day, shame on you! How could you not remember the opening day of the much-anticipated Tim Burton interpretation of Alice in Wonderland?! The film is hailed as a sort of sequel to the Lewis Carroll novels. Alice returns to Wonderland as a teenager, finds it in disrepair, and madness ensues.
Directly from the director of such dark fantasy classics as Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas, and starring some of Burton’s go-to actors (Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, for instance), the film promises characters and visuals that will spark your imagination. Check it out in digital 3D or as a regular film throughout the Columbia area. Or, if you want to take a road trip, you can see it in Charleston or Myrtle Beach for that complete IMAX 3D experience! Visit ColaMovies for theatres and show times.
Start March out the right way and enjoy next week by making it as goth as possible!
