Coming to the Miami Airport Convention Center May 23 through May 25, 2014 is Pinned Miami which is billed as “The Pin Up Culture, Rockabilly, Burlesque, and Tattoo Festival”. The event website tantalizes with what hints at being the “sexiest show on Earth.” And with “3 days dedicated to the culture of Pin Up, featuring models, bands, photographers, artists, workshops, panels, burlesque, classic cars, exhibitors, vendors, films, tattoo artists” this may well be true.
While the entire show and all its events promise to be an optical feast for the costume aficionado, there are several costume specific events that will appeal directly to costume designers and enthusiasts.
On Saturday May 23, at 4:45 pm there is a Rockabilly Fashion Contest “of the 50′s till today, open to boys, girls and couples.” There will be prizes in each of the aforementioned categories.
A half hour earlier on Saturday May 23 at 4:15 is the Military Pin-up Contest for military pin-up girls and boy / girl couples. Participants are invited to “Celebrate the retro-style and beauty of military pin-up culture.” Prizes will be awarded to “Best in Show (open to single entries or couples) 1st Place ‘Military Girl’ 1st Place ‘Military Boy and Girl Couple’ Runner Up ‘Military Girl’ Runner Up ‘Military Boy and Girl Couple’”.
And there is, of course, the Miss Miami Pin Up Contest. This top featured contest takes place on Saturday May 24 at 10:30 pm and there are over $3,000.00 in combined cash and prizes being offered with $1,000.00 cash and additional prizes going to the first place winner! Organizers emphasize that “this competition is designed to find the pinup models that exemplify what it means to be a great pin-up in today’s modern world and celebrate the retro-style and beauty of pin-up culture. We are looking for pin-ups who can carry themselves in a crowd and shine. Pinups who are positive, professional, beautiful and compassionate.” Do you have what they are looking for?
