The sweet promise of spring is in the air; and even though winter is trying to linger on, Chicagoans are eagerly counting down the days until spring arrives. Likewise, animal shelters throughout Chicagoland are getting ready to host a season of adorably cute pet adoption and fundraising events that are just way too cute not to attend. Now is the perfect time to adopt your next furry friend! Throughout Chicagoland, animal shelters are filled to capacity with thousands of cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, rabbits and even birds that are looking for their forever homes, so please consider adopting one of these precious souls instead of buying one from a pet store or breeder. Adopting a pet has endless benefits including saving a life, helping the community, creating awareness about adopting by encouraging others to adopt, supporting the love and dedication of animal shelters and last but not least, giving homeless pets a chance to live the rest of their lives in a real home.

The Animal Care League located at 1011 Garfield Street in Oak Park, IL has many adorable furry friends to choose from including, cats, dogs and other small animals including rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, rats and gerbils, so if you are in the neighborhood why not stop by and meet some of these furry babies that are looking for their forever homes. Also, this shelter is having their Spring for the Animals Spring Luncheon on Sunday, April 27th, from 11AM-3PM. If you want to adopt from Chicago's largest no-kill animal shelter then PAWS Chicago, located at 1997 Clybourn Avenue, is definitely the place to go. This shelter has hundreds of sweet dogs, kittens, puppies and cats that are waiting for you to adopt them today and best of all, animals adopted from shelters have already been spayed, neutered, vaccinated and even potty trained which is a huge plus. If you are interested in attending one of PAWS Chicago's premier pet adoption events, please come to their Angels with Tails event taking place on May 18th at Michigan Avenue and Oak Street.

Another no-kill animal shelter located at 2975 Milwaukee Avenue in Northbrook, IL called the Heartland Animal Shelter, is also on a mission to find forever homes for their sweet furry babies including dogs, cats, puppies and kittens that are anxiously waiting to be adopted. Always remember this, when you adopt a pet from an animal shelter, you are opening the door for another homeless pet to be rescued off of the streets, because each pet that is adopted frees up space in the shelter for another animal to have a safe place to live. On March 23rd at 5:30pm, the Heartland Animal Shelter is having a fun bowling event called Bow-WOW & Alley Cat Bowling at the River Rand Bowl in Des Plaines, IL. This is an engaging event you definitely do not want to miss out on and for details concerning this exciting event please visit the Heartland Animal Shelter website.
