Looking to make your home energy use more efficient? Look no further than Renew Boston’s Solarize workshop this Wednesday in Hyde Park.
Renew Boston was created by Mayor Menino in 2009 as a way to save energy and create green jobs. The organization is made up of both non-profit and for-profit energy efficiency teams and alternative energy providers. With the help of Renew Boston programs designed for a variety of participants such as small business owners, home owners, and renters, Boston has been ranked the most energy efficient city in the United States by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy. Its long-term goal in to drop greenhouse gas emissions by eighty percent by 2050.
Wednesday’s event is twofold. Part One focuses on weatherization. With the coldest part of the winter still ahead of us, it won’t hurt to get some tips on how to stretch your heating dollars as far as possible, or even find out if you qualify for certain energy efficiency programs at little or no cost. Renew Boston offers discounts or rebates to qualified participants on insulation, energy efficient light bulbs, even refrigerators and other appliances.
If you want to take your eco-friendly lifestyle to the next level, Part Two is solarization. Learn the basics of solarizing a roof including what type of roof is appropriate for the switch, what the process involves, and how much you can save in the long run. Anyone who signs up to install solar paneling by the end of December gets in on a community bulk pricing program by which the more people who participate, the lower the installation cost.
Renew Boston Solarize Workshop will be held on Wednesday, December 18, from 7:00-8:30PM at Hyde Park Municipal Building, 1179 River St. Hyde Park, MA 02136. Light refreshment will be served. RSVP to John.Lynch@nextstepliving.com is appreciated.
