Let's admit it, as with any exercise routine, even the ones that we absolutely love, it is good for the body and mind to mix it up a little. Power yogis can benefit from an afternoon spent doing yin yoga, ashtanga junkies will get a kick out of the high-power style of Jivamukti and anyone experiencing aerial yoga for the first time will walk away from a yoga class unlike any other they've ever had before.
As a long-time fixture in the Charleston yoga community Jordan Anderson has been teaching people how to flip upside down, move deeper into their asana and breathe! as she so gently reminded students to do in a recent aerial class that she taught. Yet this new form of yoga, acroyoga, allows students of all levels to do so much more with their practice. In fact, you don't have to be a practicing yoga student at all to take pleasure in what she has to offer.
It starts with easing students into the mindset that doing something new is beneficial for your body, mind and soul. Rather than continuing on our daily path of rituals that can keep us so mundanely satisfied step into the parachute silk and let your imagination run wild. Face your fears and let your feet glide up and off of the ground as your head invites itself down towards it; not your usual position during the day but one that you will quickly become adapted to, and even enjoy.
And the physical benefits are evident after just one class. Feel areas of your body awaken that have lain dormant for too long; breathing becomes easier as your chest expands; find length in your spine as you walk tall out of class; feel a general sense of wellness and accomplishment at having tried something new, perhaps even uncomfortable.
After just a few months in Charleston students have been raving about the amazing classes that Jordan teaches in both North Charleston and Sullivan's Island.
"I really love using the silks for my practice, it was new, fun, exciting, and all the while restorative emotionally for me, relaxing and just incredible."
"My body feels more open, my poses deeper, and my spine aligned with gravity as I float like a cloud."
"This feels even better than a massage!"
Available just once a week and for private sessions her classes fill up quickly so either go online to reserve a spot or call Jordan directly at
