'Up in the Air' scribe to direct gritty action flick

Collider learned yesterday that “Up in the Air” writer Sheldon Turner has been hired by Relativity Media to write, and possibly direct, the gritty action thriller “Borderland.”

The film is being described as a modern day Western meets “Magnificent Seven.”

Details of the plot have a newly installed mayor in a resort town who enlists a band of ex and current Special Forces operatives to train the townspeople to fight back against a violent cartel that has moved in.

There are actually a couple films coming out in the near future with a plot similar to this (as is typical in Hollywood) so it is no surprise to see the studio wanting this film out before the end of next year.

Turner is a more than capable writer, but has yet to prove himself in the action genre or as a director so this could really go either way.

I like the concept, and with the right cast this could be at least a kick-ass action film.
