The Unsung season premiere will feature singer Deniece Williams.The show airs Monday, June 6th at 10 p.m. EST on TV One. The Grammy Award-winning singer has left her mark on secular and gospel music. Her distinctive soprano voice can be heard on the hits “Silly”, “I’m So Proud”, “I Surrender All” and many more.
Williams was a household name in the 1970s and 1980s as a singer, songwriter and record producer. She often collaborated with Johnny Mathis ("Too much,Too little,Too late") and Stevie Wonder. Her song "Let’s Hear it for the Boy” reached #1 on the charts in 1984 and was featured in the Kevin Bacon movie Footloose.
She eventually began to sing more gospel, and in 1986 she released her first gospel album, "So Glad I Know" which captured two Grammys. Another album “This Is My Song” won Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album in 1999.
The Unsung episode features interviews with Ray Parker Jr., Phillip Bailey, Verdine White, George Duke and Stevie Wonder. Check local listings for channels.
