The rain fell for three days and caused flooding on the streets around the RFK Stadium; yet, it was not enough to stop the participants of the 3 Day Walk for a Cure.
Sunday October 13, 2013 will be the Closing Ceremony for the event at the RFK Stadium rather than the National Mall due to the government shutdown. The spirit of the walkers was high on Saturday as they made their way to the last steps of their victorious journey.
Although the government shutdown forced the program organizers to change the closing event from the National Mall to the RFK Stadium the spirit of the people who gathered in the rain was not changed. They were charged with energy and ready to walk 60 miles to fight the dreaded disease.
The faces of the participants and their family and friends told a story of love, devotion, dedication, and determination to end the pain and suffering that breast cancer has caused to so many loving survivors and those who fought breast cancer with honor and dignity.
The photographs tell the story best. Each of the stories covered by Examiner.com will contain the final pictures from the closing ceremony on October 13, 2013. The Susan G. Komen organization, staff, volunteers, and participants have all served America well in the fight to end breast cancer.
Today the 3 Day Walk for the Cure participates kept the promise made on October 11, 2013.
