TORONTO – CBC Television, the major Canadian channel, wants to find the greatest emerging musicians in the country for its new series. "Cover Me Canada" will air this fall.
Unsigned individuals and bands interested in participating in the show are invited to submit two-to-five-minute videos where they are seen performing their own renditions of any of the following Canadian classics: Gordon Lightfoot's "Sundown," Bryan Adams' "Run To You," Tom Cochrane's "Life is a Highway" and Alannah Myles' "Black Velvet". The limit is one uploaded video per song.
Auditions are open until July 8, 2011, at 5 p.m. EST. After that deadline, the top nine bands or artists will be selected by a panel of production and musical experts to compete as finalists on "Cover Me Canada." Then, they will perform live every week on the show with their own accompaniment and vocals. And the winner will get a $100,000 cash prize and the opportunity to record their first original single with a major record label and release it with Universal Music Canada.
To be eligible, participants (individuals and groups) must be at least 12 years of age, as well as legal residents of Canada. Competitors under 18 (in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Québec, Saskatchewan) or 19 (in British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Yukon Territory) must provide contact information for a parent or legal guardian.
"Cover Me Canada" will be broadcast live from the CBC studios in Toronto.
