The high pressure system that will provide excellent weather conditions for today will also set up a cool, unsettled weather pattern for much of this week. While showers will be a constant threat tomorrow on through Thursday, the weekend is shaping up to be excellent, especially for mid to late August.

Today, high pressure over Ontario, Canada will produce clear skies to scattered cloud cover throughout all of New Jersey. Winds will be from the northwest veering to the north at around 5 mph. Temperatures will rise into the upper 70's to lower 80's over northern New Jersey and along the immediate coast and lower to mid 80's over central and southern New Jersey.

Tonight, as the high pressure system shifts towards the Canadian maritime, clouds will slowly increase, especially over southern New Jersey. Winds will veer to the northeast at 5 to 10 mph. Temperatures will fall into the upper 40's to lower 50's over northwestern New Jersey, mid to upper 50's over much of the rest of northern New Jersey and central New Jersey, and lower to mid 60's over southern New Jersey and along the immediate coast.

Tomorrow on through Thursday, an unsettled marine air mass will build into much of New Jersey. The combination of high pressure over the New England coastal waters with waves of low pressure passing to the south of New Jersey through Delaware and the coastal waters of the Mid Atlantic will lead to a persistent easterly wind component through the forecast period. As a result, scattered to overcast cloud cover can be expected with widely scattered showers a threat. The best potential for showers will be over southern New Jersey. A few showers will be capable of very heavy downpours leading to localized flash flooding at times. High temperatures will range from the upper 70's to lower 80's over northern and central New Jersey and along the immediate coast, lower to mid 80's over southwestern New Jersey. Low temperatures will range from the mid to upper 50's over northwestern New Jersey and lower to mid 60's throughout northeastern, central, and southern New Jersey.

High pressure from the New England coastal waters will strength on Friday and build south for Saturday and Sunday leading to clear skies to scattered cloud cover. Low temperatures will range from the upper 40's to lower 50's over northwestern New Jersey, mid to upper 50's over the rest of northern New Jersey, and lower to mid 60's over central and southern New Jersey. High temperatures will range from the upper 70's to lower 80's throughout all of New Jersey.
