The average high temperature for this time of year is around 80 degrees. Temperatures over the next week could be as much as 5 to 15 degrees above that average for this time of the year. Temperatures are forecasted to be in the middle 80s today; upper 80s on Saturday and Monday, and lower 90s expected Tuesday of next week. Dry conditions will continue, as our only real chance of rain during the period looks to be Saturday evening.

Humidity will be on the increase today and Saturday, before a front sags southward through our area Saturday night and stalling out to our south. With the passage of the front, a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms exists Saturday evening and into the overnight hours. Behind the front, winds will switch from the southwest to the northeast and usher in cooler and less humid conditions on Sunday. The winds will switch back to the south again for Monday through Wednesday before another front approaches toward the end of the week to knock temperatures down back to average.
The overall pattern that has been locked into place since mid-August doesn’t look like it’s changing much through mid-September. Current forecasts from NOAA-Climate Prediction Center indicate that temperatures will be well above normal in the upper Midwest through next week and the week after. Under this dome of high pressure and this upper air ridge over the plains, precipitation looks to remain below normal as well. This will only worsen drought conditions in our area, and off to our south and west as impulses ride along the top of the ridge and keep thunderstorms off to our north and east.
