Unplanned discoveries can improve your day

An unexpected drive reminded me of something very important the other day. I hadn’t meant to go anywhere except the store, but I had been having a really bad couple of days. So, without realizing it, first one and then another off-ramp had been missed, and yet I was still driving. It turns out that I kept driving all the way to the beach (which is about an hour away from where I live by the way).

Realizing where I was, I began to follow the signs towards the pier. Parking my car a little bit further down than I would have liked turned out to be fortuitous, because I found myself on a relatively quiet street, lined houses on one side, and benches on the other. So, I sat down and just watched the waves come in.

What about that thing that I had forgotten, you ask?

Well, as I sat there, I realized that I had forgotten what an amazing place it actually is that we live in.

Not everyone in the country lives just a couple of hours away from their choice of beach, mountains, desert, or city. We, however, can choose from them all, pretty much whenever we want. Plus it turns out that doing so can actually improve our quality of life. So, there’s even an incentive to make the trip.

Throughout the year I do my best to help save the planet in any way I can. Like many people though, I realized that I tend to not take the time to always enjoy what it is that I’m trying to save. Rarely do I just stop and smell the roses, which is sad; because it turns out they can smell pretty nice.

Well, I guess that means I’ll have to make a New Year’s resolution after all then, one where I try not to forget to enjoy what’s around me to its fullest. So, although it’s been a bit rainy the last couple of days, that doesn’t mean I can’t plan for tomorrow. I’ll get a tourist guide, and just choose somewhere to explore. How about joining me in a similar adventure of your own? Think about it I.E., where would you choose to go?
