Prizes:
"Monday Night Vintage" features a scalable prize payout, with your choice of cash or store credit. With $8 in store credit given for every $6 entry fee, the prize payout at Scholar's Books & Games in Bridgewater are very lucrative. Scholar's has an excellent selection of games and books, as well as Magic: the Gathering product. With only sixteen people, the payouts would look like this:
1st $32.00 in Cash or $51.20 in store credit
2nd $24.00 in Cash or $38.40 in store credit
3rd $16.00 in Cash or $25.60 in store credit
4th $8.00 in Cash or $12.80 in store credit
More people attending the tournament obviously means more prizes for the players. With 24 Magic players, the payouts would jump significantly to:
1st $48.00 in Cash or $76.80 in store credit
2nd $36.00 in Cash or $57.60 in store credit
3rd $24.00 in Cash or $38.40 in store credit
4th $12.00 in Cash or $19.20 in store credit
Why should you go to Scholar’s?
Because there are unlimited proxies! One of the major detractions from Vintage tournaments is the fact that many of the competitive cards, such as the Power Nine, Mana Drain, and even dual lands like Underground Sea are expensive – especially to new players.
Proxy tournaments let players who do not own all the expensive competitive cards enjoy the format without having subpar decks. Proxy tournaments also put an emphasis on deck design as well as play skill. That is because everyone has the same resources, so there is no disparity like there is with other formats between the "haves" and the "have nots". Additionally, the $6 entry fee is cheaper than a draft!
In these hard economic times, getting the most out of your money is important. Why draft once, when you could play in almost three Constructed tournaments? You'll have three times the chance of winning prizes than attending one booster draft. Additionally, one does not have to suffer from opening a bad pool of cards.
Scholar's is located on 34 Central Sq, Bridgewater, MA. You may call them at (508) 279-1712.
