University of Pittsburgh Press writing contest offering $15,000 cash prize

University of Pittsburgh Press Drue Heinz Literature Prize writing contest

The University of Pittsburgh Press is holding their Drue Heinz Literature Prize writing contest.

It is open to writers who have published a book-length collection of fiction or at least three short stories or novellas in a commercial magazine or literary journal.

The winner will receive a $15,000 cash prize and publication from the University of Pittsburgh Press.

Registration is free. Deadline is June 30, 2010.

The Writer’s Loft: Helmed by the famed Jerry Cleaver, author of Immediate Fiction and Professor of Professional Fiction at Northwestern University.

StoryStudio Chicago: StoryStudio’s mission is to “foster confidence and creativity in writing and storytelling through teaching, discussion, performance and community building. Writers and performers of all levels—from beginners to professionals—are invited to participate.”

Neighborhood Writing Alliance: The Neighborhood Writing Alliance holds several weekly writing workshops in neighborhoods across the city. Registration is free.

NewTown Writers: NewTown is a gay and lesbian writers’ group with regular workshops every two weeks. Registration is free.

TheUndeniables.org is an online critique group for those with restricted schedules who may not have the time to participate in a conventional classroom workshop. Registration is free. Wordpress account required.
