The University of Maine Black Bears field hockey team have won four of their last five games.
On Saturday afternoon, the Black Bears will open America East play when they host UMass-Lowell at 1 p.m.
The Riverhawks will take on the Black Bears for the first time as a NCAA Division I field hockey team. This is the first season for UMass-Lowell as a division one program.
Annabelle Hamilton leads the Black Bears in points. The junior has 13 points on five goals and three assists. Marissa Shaw and Holly Stewart also have five goals. Nicole Sevey has recorded four goals and three assists.
Maine (4-4) defeated Brown 6-0 on September 15th and Central Michigan 2-0 on September 22nd.
Melissa Effertz leads the Riverhawks with three goals. Libby Kain from Dexter high school is a freshman on the UMass-Lowell roster.
The Riverhawks improved to 1-6, when they defeated St. Francis 3-2 last Sunday.
The University of Maine football team will also open conference play on Saturday afternoon.
They will travel to Virginia for a Colonial Athletic Association contest against the University of Richmond. The game can be seen live at 4 p.m. on Comcast Sportsnet.
