Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski are signed on to star in the Universal Pictures true story feature film 'Everybody Loves Whales'. The movie is based on an attempt to rescue three gray whales trapped by sea ice near Barrow, Alaska in 1988.
Barrow is the northernmost city in the United States. The scenes in the movie that take place in Barrow are being reconstructed in Anchorage due to the lack of necessary hotels, housing and businesses to accommodate a months-long shoot, although there will be 1-2 weeks of filming in Barrow.
The filmmakers are looking to fill about 30 paid speaking roles, ranging from Russian-speaking sailors to a helicopter pilot with a valid license, reporters, restaurant workers, a teacher and a Greenpeace worker, among many others.
Over 1,000 extras will be cast. About 10 roles are Alaska Native American principal actor roles. In addition to the actors and extras, the filmmakers plan to hire construction workers, people to help with sets, props and wardrobe and many other workers.
Full details about the casting calls dates and location for both Los Angeles and Alaska are being listed on the following blog post:
