Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights 2013 has added two attractions based on the movies "The Purge" and "Curse of Chucky." Universal Studios Hollywood made the announcement on Aug. 15, 2013. Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Night takes place in Universal City, Calif., from Sept. 20 to Nov. 2, 2013.
According to a press release: "The provocative box-office blockbuster 'The Purge' will come to life as 'The Purge: Survive the Night.' As guests enter the theme park, they will be thrust into the depraved world of 'The Purge,' a sordid tale in which all crime is declared legal and no one is safe for one single night; a story, in which all criminal activity, including murder, is legal for 12 hours. Ironically, the gates to Halloween Horror Nights swing open at 7 p.m. sharp, the same time havoc is reaped upon the citizens in 'The Purge.' 'The Purge: Survive the Night' scare zone will push guests to the limits as they become engaged in the film’s most memorable scenes while trying to run for their lives."
"The Purge" (a thriller from writer/director James DeMonaco and producer Jason Blum) stars Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey as married parents who are engulfed in the madness of a night that happens once a year when all crime is legal. The movie was a sleeper hit when it was released in cinemas in June 2013. Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release "The Purge" on Blu-ray Combo Pack with DVD and Digital including UltraViolet on Oct. 8, 2013, the same day that "The Purge" premieres on demand.
The "Curse of Chucky" scare zone, inspired by the home-video release of the same title, will bring the terrifying pint-size doll, possessed by the spirit of a notorious serial killer, to life. Having made special appearances at past 'Halloween Horror Nights,' this is the first time the sinister doll has commanded his own scare-zone to shock and terrify guests for his amusement.
"Curse of Chucky" is being released directly to home video. Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production entity of Universal Studios Home Entertainment, is releasing the movie as a digital download on Sept. 24, 2013, and on Blu-ray and DVD on Oct. 8, 2013. "Curse of Chucky" reunites the franchise's creators Don Mancini and David Kirschner 25 years later, as the deadly legacy continues and Chucky resumes his disturbing reign of terror, delivering more of the blood-curdling scares and bone-chilling twists that have cemented his place as one of the world’s most legendary horror film icons.
Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights 2013's attractions will also include: "Insidious: Into the Further" (based on the "Insidious" movies),“The Walking Dead: No Safe Haven” (based on AMC’s award-winning TV show), “Evil Dead: Book of the Dead” (inspired by Sony Pictures' remake of "The Evil Dead") and “Black Sabbath 13 3D,” inspired by the darkest lyrics from heavy-metal band Black Sabbath.
As previously reported, Universal Studios Orlandos' Halloween Horror Nights 23 (which takes place from Sept. 20 to Nov. 2, 2013 in Orlando, Fla.) has an attraction inspired by the movie "The Cabin in the Woods."
