The United Teachers of Dade organized a demonstration against Governor Rick Scott's efforts to focus on standardized tests. A group of teachers marched along Biscayne Boulevard on January 17. For years, teachers have complained that standardized tests hamper their ability to teach students and focus too much on test taking skills. Teachers have said they want to help students learn about a wider range of academics rather than what might be covered on a test.
"I don't believe education should be reduced to just one high stakes test. I think there is too much emphasis on tests and not enough on real learning," said Sandy Holmberg.
