United States readies attack on Iran

That Is The Speculation In Some Quarters

According to a report in The Herald Scotland, the United States is in the process of shipping bunker buster bombs to Diego Garcia, a British Island located in the Indian Ocean.

Bunker buster bombs saw action during the Iraq invasion, penetrating deep into the ground or through many feet of concrete before exploding. These bombs could be effective if the United States were trying to take out the Iranian nuclear infrastructure.

The Herald reported that the United States had contracted to ship multiple ammunition containers to Diego Garcia, with hundreds of Blu bombs in the inventory. The manifest for the shipment was said to have been posted on an international tenders website.

Blu bombs are laser guided and contain a thermobaric explosive which makes them even more lethal in confined spaces.

This report adds to the speculation by some that the United States is in fact gearing up for an attack on Iran, although that fact is not clear to many, including myself.

Dan Plesch, director of the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy at the University of London said “They (United States) are gearing up totally for the destruction of Iran. US bombers are ready today to destroy 10,000 targets in Iran in a few hours.”

Ian Davis of Nato Watch said of the shipments  “We would urge the US to clarify its intentions for these weapons, and the Foreign Office to clarify its attitude to the use of Diego Garcia for an attack on Iran."

Alan Mackinnon of the Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament said “It is clear that the US government continues to beat the drums of war over Iran, most recently in the statements of Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. It is depressingly similar to the rhetoric we heard prior to the war in Iraq in 2003.”

If the action, or more to the point seeming inaction of the Obama administration concerning Iran is any guide, an attack of that country is a long way off. But maybe that is what they want us to think.
