United States most dangerous neighborhoods in 2014: Top 25

A list of the United States’ 25 most dangerous neighborhoods has been compiled by NeighborhoodScout and reported on by Reboot Illinois and other media outlets on Wednesday. The list gives the city in which the dangerous neighborhood is located and is followed by the designated intersection of the neighborhood. Additionally, the violent crime rate is reported, as per 1,000 people.

The list gives the specific neighborhoods in the United States that have the highest predicted rates of violent crime per 1,000 residents in its neighborhood. The violent crimes taken into consideration for the list and report include – but are not limited to – murders, forcible rapes, aggravated assaults, and armed robberies. Based on FBI date from all 17,000 local law enforcement agencies in the county, exclusive data has been developed by NeighborhoodScout.

According to the report, the neighborhoods listed are the epicenters of violence in the country. They are locations where social issues are likely to ignite into violence. Naturally, it is predicted that the violence will spread. Six of the top 25 most dangerous neighborhoods in the country are in Illinois. Yet, the highest Chicago neighborhood listed is only listed at number 20. There is another Chicago neighborhood listed at number 24. The most dangerous city in the country is also an Illinois neighborhood.

The most dangerous neighborhood in the nation is located in East St. Louis, Illinois. The specific location given for the violence is East St. Louis’ City Center. According to the NeighborhoodScout data, the violent crime rate is 100.97 which is incredibly a 1 in 10 chance of a person becoming a victim of a crime in the East St. Louis’ City Center neighborhood.

The other cities that have neighborhoods with more than a 90 percent violent crime rate follow close behind. Jackson, Tennessee’s James Buchanan Drive at 1st Street is number 2 with a 97.50 percent violent crime rate. Atlanta, Georgia’s McDaniel St. SW at Mary St. SW is number 3 with a 96.20 percent, and Saginaw, Michigan’s E. Holland Ave. at E. Genesee Ave. is number 4 with a 93.65 percent.

The city mentioned most often is Detroit, Michigan. While it has two in the top 10, it also is listed at number 11. The most dangerous of the four Michigan neighborhoods listed is in Saginaw.
