The United States Healthful Food Council (USHFC) is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization dedicated to fighting diet-related disease by realigning the food industry’s incentives with consumers’ health interests. USHFC developed Responsible Epicurean and Agricultural Leadership (REAL) Certification to be the trusted, nationally recognized mark of excellence for food and food service operators committed to holistic nutrition and environmental stewardship. Zia's Cafe is the first REAL restaurant in Baltimore.

In March, USHFC held its inaugural REAL Food Innovator Awards, which recognized Seth Goldman, the TEO of Honest Tea, and Robert Egger, the founder of DC Central Kitchen and LA Kitchen, among others. USHFC is also launching Eat REAL NY and Eat REAL CA on May 5 in conjunction with the James Beard Awards.
