United flight 1603, which took off from Houston with 161 passengers on board, landed safely and the pilot was rushed to a local hospital, according to Boise Airport spokeswoman Patti Miller. The pilot's name was not released, but he died as a result of a medical emergency.
During the flight, the co-pilot told the control tower before landing that personnel was performing chest compressions, but the status of his condition couldn't be determined. The pilot was still alive when he arrived at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center but died overnight while undergoing treatment, spokeswoman Jennifer Krajnik said Friday.
The pilot's family has been notified of his passing.
United Airlines spokeswoman Christen David said on Friday:
"I am said to confirm that our co-worker passed away last night. Our thoughts are with his family at this time."
The Boeing 737 aircraft later continued to Seattle, landing just after midnight PST. One man tweeted, 'Kudos to United for its professional manner.'
