Lori Rackl has reported on Nov. 4, 2012 for the Chicago Sun Times: United launches Boeing Dreamliner with festive first commercial flight. United’s first commercial flight aboard this dynamic new state-of-the-art aircraft landed smoothly on Sunday morning at O’Hare Airport nearly 15 minutes ahead of schedule. This was a festive occasion with a hearty round of applause from the passengers and crew who got to be a part of the this historic day.

Water cannons were used to christen the 787 as it pulled up to its gate in Chicago, which is home to both the company that makes the sought-after Dreamliner and United, which is the first North American-based airline to get it. The mid-size, wide-body jet arrived from Houston, where United decked out the boarding area with festive blue and white balloons and passengers helped themselves to cookies which were adorned with Dreamliners. Shortly after take-off there was a champagne toast.

Julie Johnson has reported for Bloomberg on Nov. 4, 2012: United Begins First 787 Dreamliner Flight by U.S. Airline. United Continental Holdings Inc. Chief Executive Officer Jeff Smisek has commented that the Dreamliner is “the best airplane in the world.” At today's launch he said, “It doesn’t get any cooler than this,” as he posed for photos and signed autographs at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The Dreamliner is the first extremely fuel efficient, mid-size plane which is capable of flying the distances of bigger jets.
