Unique version of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue this Sunday with the DYAO

The Denver Young Artists Orchestra website proclaims at the top of the banner "hear the future". Someday many of the members of the DYAO will be continuing their studies and careers as musicians with orchestras around this great country and they will be the future of Classical Music. On Sunday October, 25th the DYAO will perform Gerswin's Rhapsody in Blue. Rhapsody has been performed numerous times and is on of Gershwin's most performend pieces, however what makes this performance unique is the instrumentation. About a month ago Jeffrey Kahane and the Colorado Symphony Orchestra performed the original jazz band version of the piece. Rarely, has it been ever heard with the soloists being a jazz trio.

Joining the DYAO will be the Marcus Roberts Trio led by Pianist Marcus Roberts. Marcus, a jazz pianist also studied classical piano at Florida State University. Along with Marcus his trio mates include two New Orleans musicians, drummer Jason Marsalis and bassist Roland Guerin. This will be a unique headline for a very popular piece.

Also on the program maestro Scott O'Neill will lead the orchestra through Schwantner’s New Morning for the World narrated by House of Representatives member Terrance Carroll.

Check out the DYAO's website for more information.

The Concert Begins at 2:30 PM at Boettcher Concert Hall. Tickets are $28.00 for Adults and $22.00 for Students and Seniors.
