At a recent Antiquorum auction, a one-of-a-kind Patek Philippe watch sold by Cartier in 1950 reached a winning big of $710,500 - proving that the fervor and market demand for Patek Philippe watches is far from over. For at least a decade now Patek Philippe watch auction results have been very impressive, with fine examples almost always reaching prices of over half a million dollars. Patek Philippe is known to be of a handful of watch brands that not only have the ability to hold value, but that at auction can yield very good prices for rare models both vintage and contemporary.
Finding new Patek Philippe watches to auction off that will be cause for such bidder excitement is rare - as often times it is the same several rare pieces that circulate among collectors. This Reference 2419 watch was said to never before have been offered for auction and is totally unique as it was created specially for a specific client. That client - an elderly gentleman - wanted an easy to read watch with a large crown for simple winding and a minute repeater (to sound the time via a chiming code). The gold watch had an estimated value of up to $500,000, but reached $710,500 based on bids from collector's worldwide. Patek Philippe auctions often go that high, and auction house Antiquorum is known to be very conservative in their auction result estimates. A great piece for the lucky (and wealthy) winner.
