I’ve stayed overnight in a tipi at Rimrock Inn near Enterprise, Oregon on the edge of the 2,000 foot, Joseph Canyon; I’ve slept on the ground under a beautiful, star lit night in the swamps of Louisiana, albeit, it was during a military exercise with just my duffle bag for a pillow and my field jacket to keep me warm. I’ve spent the night in an ancient, majestic castle in Germany, and I’ve turned around on my motorcycle, leaned my head back on the handlebars and stretched my feet to drape them over the back of my sissy bar and taken a nap at Sturgis, the biggest motorcycle rally in the world. I’ve never, however, slept in an Easy Rider Harley-Davidson themed caboose, (the closest I’ve ever come is riding a sleeping car rail train from St. Petersburg to Moscow), but, I plan to.
The Featherbed Railroad Bed & Breakfast resort in Lake County, on the shores of Clearlake in Northern California offers a unique lodging opportunity. The Bed & Breakfast features a collection of historical railroad cabooses, each with a different theme. Caboose options include the Orient Express, Wild Wild West, Lover’s Caboose Suite, Santa’s Suite, Rosebud Caboose, Casablanca, Rosebud, Wine Country and of course, the Harley-Davidson themed caboose. Inside the little red caboose you’ll find an easy glider chair complete with saddle bags. The official web site describes the room: "From the orange, black and chrome colors to the custom made headboard with handlebars and the original etched mirror behind the Jacuzzi tub for two, this is definitely a unique and romantic experience. Climb up to the Cupola for a glass of wine and you'll notice our 1/4 scale motorcycle replica displayed in its own black-and-white tiled showroom. WIth its beautiful marbled floors and the smoked mirrors above the bed, this is a romantic retreat for anyone."

Cost is $190 and amenities include a Jacuzzi tub for two, refrigerator, television, video system including a VHS and DVD player with access to a huge video library including many train videos. The suite features a queen sized bed with a luxurious goose down featherbed. Other all inclusive amenities include breakfast cooked using all locally sourced ingredients, swimming pool, boat dock and boat launch, WiFi, popcorn, ping pong, and more. Of course, the added bonus is riding your motorcycle to this lovely destination, experiencing the lush wine country, and possibly enjoying the exhiliaration of riding the nearby Pacific Coast Highway.
