Located in the Village of North Palm Beach, the El Sistema inspired COPA program boasts the only full-immersion, symphonic orchestral Choice program in the county. Lucky students residing in the school’s assignment area can be automatically included in the program. Kindergarteners in the COPA program receive intensive violin music instruction each week and borrow instruments at no cost. The music instruction stretches into the K classrooms as all Kindergarten teachers at North Palm play violin!

The Children’s Orchestra & Performing Arts Project (COPA) @ North Palm Beach Elementary began with an idea to bring instrumental music to students in Northern Palm Beach County. Scheduled within the regular school day, this program expanded daily schedules and adapted facilities to provide space and time for the music program that would launch with more than 60 participants. In the fall of 2010 a grant from the Mary and Robert Pew Public Education Fund supplied the needed $20,000 seed funds for instruments, music books and stands to get the program started. Teacher salaries came through regular PBCSD budget funds and Title I funding. Teaching artists for strings and band were hired to team with the instrumentalist music teacher already in place. The outstanding quality of the teaching artists selected added a solid musical base to the work ahead (Read more about COPA at www.copaproject.org).

North Palm Beach Elementary’s brand new campus will be open this August. The LEED Gold certified facility features state-of-the-art technology, three music suites, a dance studio, acting studio, an inquiry based science lab, and a 2,500 square foot hydroponic garden.

The Village of North Palm Library is located at 303 Anchorage Drive, North Palm Beach, FL 33408, directly across the street from the new North Palm Beach Elementary School building.
