A Union woman has been charged with ill treatment of animals, Fox Carolina reported January 13.

Betty Gregory, 50, was charged after a domestic argument Friday afternoon when she and her brother began arguing about whether the dog was allowed inside the home. The brother wanted the dog to stay outside because it was sick, while Gregory wanted the dog to come in.

Gregory became hysterical and picked up the dog in front of Union County deputies, who ordered her to put the dog down.

According to a police report, Gregory threatened to kill the dog and began choking it and twisting it's head. Union County deputies on scene, along with members of the woman's family, were able to save the dog.

Gregory was arrested and taken to Union County Detention Center, and has been charged with ill treatment of animals and breach of peace. Union County Animal Control removed the dog from the home.
