The Union Hill inline rink has experienced unbelievable challenges in the last several years including pushback form some members of the city council and even a fire that damaged a portion of the rink.
Despite all of the adversity, committed parents and hockey enthusiasts have managed to craft a program that has attracted many youth players.
The Union Hill Alpharetta Bulldogs Roller Hockey program is inviting boys and girls ages 4-18 to the 2013 spring hockey season (March 10 -June 9th). Programs are available for beginners, intermediate and advanced players.
The roller league at Union Hill in Alpharetta offers low-cost, high skill, and competitive roller hockey stressing sportsmanship and player development.
“The majority of our players in our inaugural winter season were Travel Ice Hockey players looking for a "couple of extra touches" each week in a more relaxed, stress free environment that welcomed players to try some things/positions/moves they might not in travel ice hockey, ultimately building their overall hockey skill-set “ said a Union Hill organizer.
Because of the high cost of ice time the Union Hill program absolutely provides a platform to test out new moves and practice shooting which is critical to skill development.
“We think it's great that kids will be participating in other extracurricular activities this spring. This program is geared to work around all of those other things, with a practice on Friday night and games on late Sunday afternoon. Its low pressure, so if your player can't make every game or practice, that's OK. By as many of us participating as possible it allows the league to exist with reserved floor time where the kids that are available (ice players and players new to the sport) can get together and play some hockey” said Drew Bradach.
The $100 registration fees, deep discounts for friends signing up together and low "family package" rates are designed to attract youth hockey enthusiasts and those parents who want to see their children continue to develop. Details and registration are on-line.
