Union Des Grands Crus De Bordeaux 2010 Vintage tasting (Photos)

Another amazing wine tasting event executed by Balzac Communications based in Napa Valley. This past January 18 the Union Des Grands Crus De Bordeaux presented its 2010 vintage at the Palace Hotel in downtown San Francisco. Trade and Media were able to enjoy the 2010 vintage of over 105 producers, members of this prestigious wine association.

The Union Des Grands Crus De Bordeaux was founded in 1973, now with over 130 grand crus estates that share their high standards oh high quality winemaking. The member producers are located in the finest appellations in the Gironde department: Médoc, Haut-Médoc, Saint Estèphe, Pauillac, Saint- Julien, Margaux, Moulis, Listrac, Graves, Pessac-Léognac, Sauternes, Barsac, Saint-Émilion and Pomerol.

As devoted great quality wine producers, Union des Grands Crus members travel around the world to present their current vintages and also share their centuries-old modus vivendi (lifestyle) with members of the media, trade and wine lovers in general.

The 2010 vintage of the Union Des Grands Crus De Bordeaux was a delicious representation of quality winemaking. The whites (can be a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Muscadelle and Ugni Blanc) showed light but vibrant color, beautiful floral aromas, crisp yellow and green fruit flavors with pleasant acidity.

2010 Chateau de Chantegrive: From the Graves appellation (50/50 blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon) Clean bouquet of white flowers, white apricot and peach that also showed on the palate along Meyer lemon and a touch of lemon-grass. SRP: $30

2010 Chateau Rahoul: From the Graves appellation (76% Sémillon and 24% Sauvignon Blanc) Bright golden yellow in appearance, strong citrus up-front (lime and lemon) and green apple with floral notes. On the palate concentrated flavors of ripe peach, pineapple and Granny apples with grapefruit and toasty notes. SRP: $20

2010 Chateau Pape Clément: From Pessac-Léognan (45% Sauvignon Blanc, 45%, 5% Muscadelle and 5% Sauvignon Gris) From one of the oldest wine producing properties in Bordeaux, with it's origin dated back to 1305. A beautiful aromatic white with green apple, lemon peal and honeysuckle aromas upfront followed by key lime pie, clementine orange and hints of cream and toast in the palate. Great balance between acid and fruit makes this wine great with food, try it with seafood, shellfish, chicken with a creamy sauce and soft or semi-soft cheeses. SRP: $150

The reds (can be a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.), were a great representation of the various Bordeaux AOC's, pleasant bouquet of red and dark fruit, earthy notes and ripe fruit and savory notes on the palate with pleasant acidity and balanced fruit and tannins. Each Chateau was able to produce wines that reflects their terroir and individual style, noteworthy vintage with great aging capability.

2010 Chateau Talbot: From Sain-Julien (A blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot) This well crafted wine has a polished bouquet of ripe plum, raspberry and dark cherry along with star anise, tobacco, cassis and delicate red flower notes. On the palate this wine feels medium to full-bodied with impressive flavors of dark fruit, baking spices and cassis finishing long with dark chocolate and green pepper notes. SRP: $72

2010 Chateau Clinet: From Pomerol (A blend of 85% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc) A refined and well balanced wine that express an aromatic bouquet of red flowers, ripe plum, raspberry jam, licorice, cocoa and dark truffle notes. On the palate this wine shows great structure with intense fruit flavors, nice savory notes, pleasant acidity, velvety texture and polished tannins. Enjoy flavors of wild berries, plum, chocolate covered cherries and cinnamon with hints of vanilla and chalk. SRP: $170
