2011 has seen its share of unforgettable hairstyles with celebrities setting the biggest trends. Young and old, royal to crazy, this year had something for every hair watcher and professional, inspiring all to try new styles and techniques.
The entire world woke up with the Royal Family on April 29, 2011 to watch Catherine Middleton marry Prince William. The new Duchess of Cambridge was elegant with her simple hairstyle that has now been seen throughout the country on many new brides, but what really had the world talking were those Fascinators. Elegant, absurd, adorable, bizarre, small, large, creative and corny were only a few of the adjectives used to describe the chapeaus worn by most of the female guests at wedding.
Young ladies across the globe were even more enamored (if that is at all possible) when the teen pop star cut his hair. The long locks that covered his face were snipped to reveal a more distinguished looking young man.
Beach waves aren’t just along the shore. They became a sexy trend with the help of the Victoria’s Secret models. Simple to recreate, this wavy hairstyle was seen on red carpets, talk shows, runways and magazine ads.
From Steven Tyler to the Cast of Glee, feathers hit the hair scene hard. Children and grandmothers all over the USA were spotted with either a colorful feather extension or a removable fashion feather clip.
Prompting teens and young adults to add pastels and unique colors to the hair were Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj with their many colored wigs and Katy Perry with her pink mane. A favorite coloring technique seen on celebrities such as Jessica Biel, Olivia Wilde and Steven Tyler were Ombré highlights, where only the ends of the hair is lightened.
Unique, fashionable, healthy and inspirational are synonymous with the styles of 2011. 2012 will not disappoint as the hair industry moves further into the world of color with a giant emphasis on shiny and healthy hair.
