Unemployment news gets worse every day in America, but did you ever think that things in America would get so bad that we would need to put armed guards into our unemployment offices?
Recently Indiana announced that it will be putting armed guards in all 36 of that state’s unemployment offices, in what state officials said is a step to improve safety and make branch security more consistent.
No specific incidents prompted the action, according to Department of Workforce Development spokesman Marc Lotter.
Lotter said the agency is merely being cautious with the approach of an early-December deadline when thousands of Indiana residents could see their unemployment benefits end after exhausting the maximum 99 weeks provided through multiple federal extension periods.
"Given the upcoming expiration of the federal extensions and the increased stress on some of the unemployed, we thought added security would provide an extra level of protection for our employees and clients," said Lotter.
So could things really get out of hand when thousands of unemployed workers in Indiana find out that they aren’t going to get checks any longer? Could we soon see economic riots similar to what we have seen in Greece and France?
Lets face it, the majority of those calling themselves the 99ers have been without unemployment benefits for more than 8 months and no violent out breaks have happened in America, yet - but we shall see what happens if the Congress does not get off it’s collective “butt” when they return mid-November and pass not only a Tier 5 but extend too, the UI filing deadlines.
But it is not just the state of Indiana that could have a problem. In fact, one recent study found that approximately 2 million Americans will lose their unemployment insurance benefits during this upcoming holiday season unless Congress authorizes another emergency extension of benefits by the end of November. At this point, however, that is looking less and less likely.
What if all the states start putting armed security guards in their unemployment offices? The truth is that frustration among unemployed Americans is growing by the day and the idea of armed guards in unemployment offices has been catching on in many other states where the unemployment is unreasonably high. Most Social Services offices have had armed guards stationed in many cities throughout the USA for years now.
So who is paying for all of this extra security? The Feds of course, which means Tax Payers.
The additional cost of the new security (in Indiana) will be approximately $1 million, and it will be paid for with U.S. government funds designated for the administration of the unemployment system according to Lotter.
Whether or not violence breaks out in American streets over the economic woes of the “have nots” may well be determined by what happens tomorrow at ballot boxes throughout America. If you are hurting now - God help us all if the Republicans take back control of the Congress.

There's been one in my unemployment office in Kentucky for as long as I've been going there.
Indiana is making a HUGE MISTAKE. ARMED guards are an accident waiting to happen.
People will be even more angry, just at the sight of them.
Indiana is ASKING FOR TROUBLE.
Disgusting. What's next? Armed guards at Walmart?
Sounds as though they're preparing for a police state.
Indiana officials must know there will be no further UI benefit extensions.
My advice to everyone - stock up on survival gear. Prepare yourself for the winter.
Indiana officials must know for certain UI benefits won't be extended, otherwise they'd have waited to find out before making a decision to spend money on guards.
I wonder how many guards they plan for each office.
New York plans to lay off 2,000 state workers by the end of next month. Imagine 2,000 more people becoming 99ers in the state of New York . . .
Who all thinks there is an uprising in the making, and the addition of guards at UI offices is a sure sign Indiana officials know UI benefits will not be extended?
Uprising likely if UI benefits are not extended? Yes.
Millions of people won't be willing to lay down and die when they lose UI benefits, their only source of income.
Our federal tax dollars paying for security guards and additional lines at the National Suicide Prevention hot-line, instead of UI benefits.
Priceless stupidity.
Actually it's not "priceless stupidity", it's priceless repression by the national security state against the "great unwashed masses" as a pre-emptive measure to protect the interests oc the capitalist class.
Make no mistake about it: the economic terrorist class at the apex of our capitalist society have always hated the middle class, the working class, and the very poor (in other words, the rich hate the rest of us). They view our needs and the common good as an economic nuisance that interferes with the sociopathic agenda of the "malefactors of great wealth."
Greece riots, coming to the USA. Prepare for winter unemployed people.
No room in shelters? Set up in a vacant, foreclosed home.
I have a bad feeling abut this. Here in Calif. they have the Sheriff's at our's and also at the Welfare / Food Stamp office. It took me all day to get help and I had alot of time to watch the people, lot's of anger and outbursts. All I could think of is those poor Social Workers and the crap they had to take before the Sheriff stepped in.
Why does government think it needs to hire armed guards to control the unemployed and poor, but government didn't police and control Wall Street banksters who stole millions of tax payer dollars and caused the financial collapse that led to unemployment, and more poor people.
Michael, if you're not asking a rhetorical question I would suggest that you familiarize yourself with the following words: "class struggle" and national security state"
VOTE GOP IN!!!!
Yet another reason to ensure that benefits are not discontinued until hiring begins again in earnest!
I suppose they genuinely need armed guards, since that's where the money is at the moment.
Just voted for Sink for Govenor (Dem) and Crist for Senator (Ind) in Fl. Let's see what happens next.
Sorry-Governor
This really scares me. There are more poor, unemployed people than the armed guards. What in the world are our officials in Washington thinking?
Donalee, there have been armed guards at my local food stamps office since I first applied back in June. They run you through a metal detector, search your bags & parcels, etc.
This is nothing new in San Diego.
But I agree it is a terrible sign. They have no money to extend our UI benefits, but they have money to hire armed lackeys to keep us in line. Incredible!
(sorry for posting twice)
The other thing to think about is this; if the Teapublicans win a majority, and they shut down the government like they have said they will, there will be *no* food stamps benefits paid.
That may be what the additional guards are about, rather than UI benefits.
New York State went to a telephone claim center system years ago for unemployment benefits. You can no longer walk into a local unemployment office anymore - it is all done via phone, internet and mail from remote call centers (located in NYS). Safer, and also a cost saving measure.
Same in Michigan, but the vacant buildings make good sights to make a statement (or homeless shelters:(
I am so sad, I have borrowed all I can, even from my kids piggy banks without asking, if I cant pay it back I will have stolen from my kids! I am ashamed, desperate and my inpatience was overspent months ago! GOD HELP US!!!!!!!!

these teapublicans that get in should first vote for a paycut then an hourly rate of pay instead of salary to be accountable for the actual time they "work" (since thats what they call work)! Since they believe government is to big they should take from themselves first, but something tells me, they wont! HYPOCRITES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
