unemployment extension 2010 - Obama makes the compromise, but is it a done deal?

President Obama risked ridicule and criticism, to get the unemployment extension reinstated for the 2 million unemployed and their dependents. He did this by making a deal with the Republicans.

The unemployment extension was agreed upon by the Republicans when President Obama agreed to reinstate the Bush Tax Cuts as they stand today, which gives tax cuts to all Americans, including the rich.

President Obama has angered many of his fellow Democrats, with this compromise that he made with the Republicans, especially since he did not confer with the Democrats before making this deal.

Nancy Pelosi today said, “I don’t know how this is ever going to pass,” when talking about the unemployment extension and the Bush Tax Cuts.

This brings up the point that although it sounds promising, this is not a done deal yet. President Obama met with the Democrats in the House and held a press conference defending his action of this compromise.

President Obama will need to do more than defend the deal, he needs to get the Democrats to sign on to what he has arranged.

The unemployment extension that President Obama is trying to put into place with the Tax Cut deal, is extended the unemployment for another 13 months.

Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman (I) did not have unkind words for President Obama today, like many of the Democratic Senators did. Lieberman said he was happy to see both sides sit down and make a compromise, it is a step in the right direction to get the both sides talking, he spoke live on Fox News today.
