President Obama did what he had to do to get the Republicans to agree to the unemployment extension. This has made him a target for much criticism from his own party. After the initial fall out yesterday, praise for the President’s compromise emerged, from some unlikely places.
One person singing the praise for the President today is Fox Channel‘s Bill O‘Reilly. He opened his show last night with “Good For President Obama” and went on to explain why “the President has done the right thing”
Bill O’Reilly spoke with quests last night about the compromise President Obama made, which was agreeing to reinstate the Bush Tax Cuts in trade for the Republicans agreeing to the unemployment extension for another 13 months.
“There comes a time when a President has to stand up for what he believes in and this is what President Obama did,” said Bill O’Reilly. His guests were not as enthusiastic at times about the compromise coming from the President. Bill O’Reilly, stuck to his claim no matter what stance his guests were presenting. He reiterated throughout his program that Obama did indeed have the best interest of the American people when making this deal.
Bill O’Reilly said he felt the President did what he had to do and he actually admired the President for taking a stand for the American people to get them the unemployment extension and to put the tax cuts in place.
Bill O’Reilly believes that “most Americans are relieved and happy,” that the President took this stand and put the unemployment extension and Tax cuts into place.
Another subject that O’Reilly spoke about was the treatment the President is receiving from his own party. He conveyed that the Presidents’ party is going to need to stop with the negativity before they “sink their own guy,” they need to be standing behind him at this point in time.
Numerous Republican politicians have come out and praised the President for taking this stand, according to Fox News Live this morning. The unemployment extension was the Presidents priority and in order to get the Republicans to agree to the extension, the President needed to agree to extend the Bush Tax Cuts. The Tax Cuts were the Republicans priority.
Bill O’Reilly is no stranger to Connecticut residents as his show, “The O’Reilly Factor,” airs on Fox week nights at 8 pm. He was seen on-air in Connecticut long before his current show aired. People who live in the Nutmeg State, especially the Baby Boomers, may remember him from early on in his broadcasting career when he was seen on WFSB-TV in Hartford.
