Florida teenagers Luis Flores, 19, and Kyah Green managed to scam over $70,000 before they were caught and arrested on August 8.
According to federal documents, an American Express investigator stated that on May 19, 2013 American Express received a call from someone who claimed to be Kim Kardashian. The person making the call managed to give AMEX Kim’s personal information and answered her security questions.
The caller was then able to access Kim’s account and altered the social security number to Flores’ social security number. The address on the accounts was also changed to reflect the address belonging to Flores and Green.
A replacement card was shipped overnight and then the next day two additional emergency replacement cards were ordered, one on Kim’s account and another on Kris Jenner’s account that was accessed the same way as Kim’s was.
On May 22, 2013, Flores signed for the delivery of all three cards. No information has been released as to whether or not Flores and Green used Kim’s account however, Kris’ account took one big hit.
Investigators raided Flores and Green’s apartment on June 26 and discovered several SunTrust bank statements. The statements revealed wire transfers from Kris’ AMEX account. There was one wire transfer in the amount of $65,000 listed on the March/April statement.
A second wire transfer on Kris’ account appeared on her May/June 2013 statement in the amount of $6,251.99. Green made one deposit of $2,000 and the two teenagers made numerous cash withdrawals after the money was transferred.
These two geniuses proceeded to circle their withdrawals in blue ink on the bank statements. The federal documents went on to describe how SunTrust Bank provided law enforcement authorities with 11 different video surveillance tapes that caught Green withdrawing money from the account at ATM machines.
A “voluminous” amount of evidence revealed Green and Flores’ participation in the scam leading to interrogations by police on June 26. Showing even more stupid behavior, Flores tried to access Kris’ account again on July 11 however additional security measures were in place and he hung up without accomplishing what he’d set out to do.
Flores and Green were arrested on August 7 and booked into Orlando’s Seminole County Jail. Green was then released without bail however, Flores remains in prison awaiting arraignment.
