I have always been a huge fan of the Joseph Campbell quote “Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls” and I get warm fuzzies when I see people living their lives this way. Although it is hard for those who are unemployed to see a silver lining, NPR’s Laura Hertzfeld recently did a report (“Lose Your Job? Follow Your Passion Instead”) about people who lost their jobs and decided to go out on their own instead of looking for a new one. These stories are inspiring and I would encourage anyone who is reevaluating their career after a layoff to consider going after what makes them happy. At the very least, don’t completely discount the idea before you have thought it through.
