Undercity Plague from 'Gatecrash' revealed (Photos)

Undercity Plague is one of the newest "Magic: The Gathering" cards from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert expansion set "Gatecrash."

(Then you may exile this spell card encoded on a creature you control. Whenever that creature deals combat damage to a player, its controller may cast a copy of the encoded card without paying its mana cost.)

Revealed today on the "DailyMTG.com Podcast #7," Undercity Plague will make your opponet die a slow and gruesome death.

Although Undercity Plague won't force an opponent to sacrifice a creature like Smallpox will, it can eat a chumk of their side of the battlefield over the course of several turns. You'll be able to make your opponent lose two life, discard two cards, and sacrifice two permanents on the turn you play Undercity Plague if the creature you encode damages your opponent.

These days decks are loaded with mana acceleration from cards like Farseek, and it's very plausible to cast Undercity Plague on turn five. With Deathrite Shaman and an Evolving Wilds, you'll be able to power out a fourth turn Undercity Plague with the help from a third turn Crypt Ghast.

If you've already made your opponent sacrifice their creature with Liliana of the Veil, killed them with a Mutilate from the turn before, or bounced their threat with Cyclonic Rift they'll be forced to sacrifice land. Once your opponent is losing their resources, it'll be hard for them to turn the duel back around in their favor.

As with the other Cipher cards we've seen such as Stolen Identity, Call of the Nightwing and Whispering Madness, you'll want to encode Undercity Plague onto an unblockable creature like Elusive Krasis or Tormented Soul in order to ensure it connects with your opponent every turn.

How will you use Undercity Plague?
