One thing about demons is…They Lie! You can't believe a thing they say. Or they mix in lies with the truth so it sounds good and they get you on the hook easier.
The devil was a murderer from the beginning. He has never been truthful. He doesn't know what the truth is. Whenever he tells a lie, he's doing what comes naturally to him. He's a liar and the father of lies. – John 8:44, GW
And the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; … – Revelation 12:9, EMTV
Satan murdered our souls through the first deception of Adam and Eve. He and his legions have been lying to the whole world ever since. They are the opposite of all the goodness of God. Because God is Truth, demons are liars.
Even people who are supposed believers are targets of lying evil spirits. Because demons mix the truth with error, people of faith are deceived if they haven't studied enough of the Bible for themselves. "Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons." (I Timothy 4:1, ESV) There are so many mixtures between Christianity and false teachings, just like Israel became infected by the pagan nations that surrounded them in the history of the Old Testament.
The idols speak lies. The fortunetellers see false visions. They speak about false dreams. They give useless comfort. That is why people wander around like sheep. They are troubled because there is no shepherd. – Zechariah 10:2, GW
And Jehovah said to me, The prophets prophesy lies in My name; I did not send them, nor have I commanded them, nor did I speak to them. They prophesy to you a false vision and a worthless divination, and a thing of no value, and the deceit of their heart. – Jeremiah 14:14, MKJV
According to the history of the Old Testament, evil spirits presented lies after lies to people through idol worship, fortune tellers, and those respected as prophets. Israel believed in the supernatural divine revelations of God, so the devil capitalized on that by substituting false supernatural revelations through the inspiration of demonic entities. It still happens today all the time.
What do we do about it? If you know that you are following in a spiritual belief involving the intervention of demons, run away as fast as you can because They Are Lying to you! But don't just run anywhere, run to Jesus.
If you know that you are a believer, study the Bible so you can tell the difference between truth and lies. Evil spirits use our ignorance against us by telling us things that sound good–but God's truth is pure. We can't mix it with the deceptions of Satan.
The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times. – Psalms 12:6, ESV
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. – II Timothy 2:15, ESV
The more we study God's pure word, the easier it will be for us to spot the lies, counterfeits, and substitute spiritual practices.
