Undercovers is an action spy type television series created by J. J. Abrams. Abrams also created Alias, Lost and Fringe and directed the films Mission: Impossible III (2006) and Star Trek (2009), and produced the film Cloverfield (2008).
Abrams, along with Josh Reims for NBC, will executive produce the Undercovers pilot along with Abrams' frequent collaborator Bryan Burk.
On May 3, 2010 Undercovers was officially ordered to series by NBC for a fall premiere, Wednesdays at 8/7c. On July 16, NBC announced that Undercovers will premiere on Wednesday, September 22, 2010.
Abrams said of the show, "This show does have ongoing stories as well but they are much more personal based and character based. But I'm trying to do a show that has a more fun energy and a little more comedic... I just enjoyed the idea of it. I enjoy the script… I enjoyed the chemistry of these two people and it became clear as we were working on it, rather than be sitting on the set every day with someone else directing it, being annoying, I’d rather just take the burden on myself."
Three of the main cast members are Boris Kodjoe, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Gerald McRaney. Kodjoe is an actor and former fashion model, best known for his role as courier-turned-sports agent Damon Carter on the Showtime television drama series Soul Food.
Mbatha-Raw is an English actress best known for her semi-regular role as Jenny in the fifth series of Spooks and series 3 of the critically acclaimed sci-fi series Doctor Who. She portrayed the role of Tish Jones in Doctor Who.
Gerald "Mac" McRaney is an American television and movie actor best known as one of the stars of the 1980s television shows Simon & Simon and Major Dad.
