On tonight's episode of "Undercover Boss" on CBS, president and CEO Andy Wirth gets a makeover and goes undercover to Lake Tahoe, Calif. The Squaw Valley mountain is famous for hosting the 1960 Winter Olympics and the epicenter of big mountain skiing. Alpine Meadows offers a family-friendly atmosphere with excellent snow sports for the entire family. The founder of the empire was Conrad Wirth, Andy's grandfather, who was the Director of the National Parks Services for eleven years. When Andy took over, he purchased Alpine Meadows to give the two resorts a more family-friendly atmosphere, where Squaw Valley mainly catered to the expert skiers.
Andy knows that it will be a hard trick to fool everyone. His friend Johnny Mosley, will be helping as he pretends to be hosting a reality show. Posing as David, a computer programmer, Andy will be working with Johnny and the employees to see if he deserves to win a job.
Job 1 will be a snowboarding instructor. He will be given the job of teaching beginners how to snowboard. They are not only beginners; they are never-evers that have not snowboarded before. Bennett told David that when Squaw Valley took over, their snowboard instructors were decreased. A lot of kids showed up, and David was a bit intimidated. David did a great job, and he was impressed with Bennett. He has been an instructor for several years. He told David that one of the instructors refused to wear a helmet. This is something that he is furious about, because it is no longer mandatory to wear helmets since Squaw took over. He knows that people could die without helmets.
Job 2 will be terrain park crew at Alpine Meadows. To maintain the snow and equipment snowboarders use to do tricks and stunts. He worked with Christie, who had an infectious laugh and beautiful smile. She lives in Reno with her drug-addicted brother, and she recently lost her father. She loves what she does and has to stay strong for her brother. He asked what she would do if she could help her brother, and she said she would send him to rehab. He is addicted to pain medication.
Job 3 is the ski patrol at Squaw Valley. He will work with Tucker with the snow patrol and rescue. First, he gets to do a simulated avalanche rescue. If someone is buried under the snow, they have fifteen minutes to rescue a skier, or they could freeze to death. He follows a signal as the instructor screams that his buddy is missing under the snow. David finds him and rescues him before it is too late. Next they are headed to the top of Squaw Peak. He learns to mark trails that are unsafe with markers that are easily visible.
Job 4 is lift maintenance in Squaw Valley. Charles is the instructor who will give David a run for his money. They will be testing and running the lifts to ensure safety of all skiers. Charles is engaged and hopes to go to Europe to ski on his honeymoon. David looks familiar to Charles with his Joe Dirt hair and glasses. Charles keeps looking at David and tells a fellow employee that he believes that David is Andy Wirth. With his cover blown, Andy finds out that Charles and his crew are under appreciated. They must be there without lunch or breaks to keep the equipment running and cannot rest until it is operating safely.
Next, the people he worked with will meet with Johnny Mosley to evaluate David. Charles was a leader, and Andy planned to show him more appreciation. He gave Charles $25,000 to restore his 1937 Ford truck.
When he met with Tucker, he was very glad to have met and worked with him. He financed his honeymoon with first-class tickets to Chamonix, France to ski Mont Blanc, worth about $30,000 for a honeymoon they will never forget. Other than thank-you, Tucker was at a loss for words.
Bennett was an awesome coach, and Andy planned to be more visible in the future. He will pay for him to become a certified climbing instructor and will see to it that he also becomes a pilot.
Christie stole Andy's heart with her love for her job and her incredible laugh; he will put $25,000 towards rehab for her brother. He also gave her $10,000 to help her move closer to her job and had a rock star of a snowmobile waiting outside for her. She was absolutely thrilled and as she rode off on the snowmobile, her laughter echoed across the mountain.
In the weeks following, Charles started overhauling his truck. After tying the knot at the top of Squaw Valley, Tucker and his wife booked their awesome honeymoon. Bennett has started flight school and will soon be flying to Alaska for some mountain climbing there.
Christie found a great rehab facility for her brother, and found a new house close enough to ride her snowmobile to work all thanks to the kind heart of Andy Wirth a super "Undercover Boss."
