According to a September 30 report published by the Huffington Post, the NBC Sports Network recently canceled a NRA-sponsored safari hunting show after the show's host made some controversial statements.
The Huffington Post reports that NBC canned “Under Wild Skies” after its host Tony Makris likened critics to Hitler during an interview with Media Matters. The show had just featured the killing of a bull elephant, and reports indicated that Makris said people who were offended by the killing of an elephant, but not by the killing of ducks or rabbits were guilty of “animal racism.” Makris reportedly went on to say that: “Hitler would have said the same thing.”
In a statement shared my the Huffington post, NBC said that “Under Wild Skies” was canceled because Makris' “comments comparing his critics to Hitler are outrageous and unacceptable.” NBC assured viewers that the NBC Sports Network would continue to air all of our other quality outdoor programming.”
