The ocean has long been considered a place of great beauty and majesty. The creatures that live in it are no exception. While the closest ocean is about thirteen hours away, you and your family can experience Sea Life Aquarium at Crown Center today!
Sea Life Aquariums has twenty-six aquariums located in eleven countries around the world. Sea Life is billed as a "friendly and authoritative guide to the last great frontier...the seas and oceans of the world and their myriad mysterious and amazing inhabitants." Sea Life has worked to encourage conservation efforts around the globe specifically in the areas of rescuing endangered sea life, encouraging breeding, and reintroducing rehabilitated animals into the wild.
Upon entering the Kansas City Sea Life Aquarium, you’ll find yourself encased in a glowing room of swirling fish. From there, you’ll work your way through displays containing fish from freshwater streams and the shoreline. Children will love the next station as they gain the opportunity to touch various creatures of the sea at the Touchpools. A Sea Life staff member will be on hand to monitor and answer questions for your family as they touch starfish, sea urchins, crabs, and other marine wildlife. A true highlight of any trip to Sea Life is the Underwater Ocean Tunnel. You will be treated to a true, underwater spectacle featuring sharks, sting rays, and the rare Bowmouth Guitarfish. Stingray Bay is home to multiple kinds of sting rays and eels and includes underground pathways for younger visitors as well as a glass-floored observation deck over the tank for those brave enough.
Sea Life Aquarium offers many amenities for their younger crowd. The previously mentioned touchpools and places to crawl are a highlight. In addition, there is an ocean themed play area at the end of the aquarium for younger patrons to play in. There are various shows throughout the day including ones focused on Rays, Seahorses, and Octopuses. The Ocean Explorer Talk will take place inside the Underwater Tunnel and will focus on all of the amazing creatures in the ocean tank. There is also a gift shop for souvenirs upon your exit from Sea Life Aquarium.
