There's good news and bad news ahead for "Under the Dome."

Season 2 of the locally filmed show will premiere Monday, June 30 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS. The first season started shooting in the Wilmington and Southport, North Carolina area in late February, and it looks like that will be the case again this year. According to the Wilmington Star News, UTD re-opened its local offices in January and was on track to start shooting in February.

Last season, Wilmington-based NCasting issued several local extras casting calls for "Under the Dome" and on February 6 they issued this update on Facebook:

"I am pretty sure we all are getting excited about season 2 of UTD going into production.... I am currently planning an open call but it won't just be an open call for extra work and stand in work... it will be an all day event of fun and surprises. We will have some of our instructors on site to answer questions about our upcoming classes, meet my new interns, and of course for those of you who don't know Danecka my new assistant. We will be showing episodes of UTD in the screening room. We will have raffles going on all day. Food and drinks and alcohol will be for sale in GIANT'S new coffee and bar area. More details to come soon!"

At the 2014 TCA winter press tour, UTD executive producer Bryan K. Vaughn told reporters Stephen King was writing the first episode of Season 2, and we'll somehow meet a few new characters, even though there's been a dome over Chester's Mill this entire time. One new character is Junior's uncle, who will (of course) cause trouble for Barbie. Another new character is a "quite forceful" young schoolteacher who will cause trouble for Big Jim.

And in major bad news, it was revealed that two fan favorite characters won't even live past Season 2, Episode 1. No one is safe! (It's "The Walking Dead" all over again...)

One of the deaths may have been revealed by way of a new casting announcement. According to Deadline, Natalie Martinez — who plays Linda Equival on UTD — has joined the cast of ABC's "Secrets & Lies," which will also be filmed in Wilmington. That show stars Ryan Phillippe as a family man who becomes the prime suspect in the murder of a young boy, and Natalie plays the boy's mother.

It doesn't seem like she can play both roles at once, so there's speculation that Linda may be one of the major Season 2 premiere deaths. What do you think of that idea? Are you excited for the new season?
