On Wednesday, January 30, local author Frank Zafiro announced on his Facebook page that the first book in his popular River City crime fiction series "Under a Raging Moon" is now available as an audiobook from Books in Motion.

Books in Motion is a Spokane Valley-based company that has been producing audiobooks since 1980. They offer a wide selection of titles in practically every genre of fiction and non-fiction.

Their catalog features many intriguing selections such as adaptations of the incredibly successful fantasy series The Belgariad by David Eddings (who was born in Spokane and set his novel "The Losers" in the Lilac City) and the historical fiction novel "The Longest Road" by Jeanne Williams (read by Academy Award winning actress and author Patty Duke). Book lovers in the Spokane area who haven't tried audiobooks yet will probably find several titles they would enjoy.

Zafiro announced on his blog in October of 2012 that Books in Motion would be publishing "Under a Raging Moon" and the rest of the River City series.

According to Zafiro, "I just signed a contract with a local audio book company called Books in Motion. They’ve been in business for a long time and produce a quality product. They distribute locally via storefront, and via the Internet on their own site and through Audible.com, which is the world’s largest audio book distributor.

"Books in Motion will be publishing 'Under a Raging Moon', 'Heroes Often Fail', 'Beneath a Weeping Sky', and 'And Every Man Has to Die', starting in 2013.

"So to say I’m thrilled to be part of the Books in Motion family of authors is an understatement! I’ve wanted this to be the home of the River City series since the first edition of 'Under a Raging Moon' was published in 2006. So this is a happy day!"

The audiobook version of "Under a Raging Moon" is available in CD or MP3 formats. The CD version retails for $28.99, but it is also available in a ValuPak edition for only $12.95. The MP3 edition is $14.99.

The unabridged story narrated by Michael Bowen has a running time of about seven hours and 54 minutes. A free sample from the prologue is available on the Books in Motion website.

Zafiro also has several other audiobooks available through Amazon and Audible.com.

Currently, crime fiction lovers can buy adaptations of three of his novels including "Some Degree of Murder" (co-written with Colin Conway), "The Last Horseman", and "Waist Deep." They can also buy the audiobook editions of his short story anthology "No Good Deed" and his two novella collection "In the Shadow of El Paso."

New Audible customers get two free audiobooks as part of a 30-day free trial offer. Any two of the Zafiro books that are available would be excellent places for crime fiction lovers to start delving into his body of work.
