Zenyatta, the powerful prancing princess and undefeated Thoroughbred racehorse, has extended her record to 18 straight wins.
Zenyatta (Street Cry vs. Vertingineux), owned by Jerry Moss and Ann Moss, captured the $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (Grade 1) on Saturday, August 7, 2010, at California’s Del Mar Racetrack.
Piloted by jockey Mike Smith, the 2004 bay mare won the six-horse 1 1/16-mile race by a neck in 1:45.03.
Galloping the polytrack surface at Del Mar racetrack, Zenyatta broke neatly from the gate, maintaining a solid pace in the rear of the field for much of the race. Coming into the final turn, Zenyatta grabbed the lead and never let go.
“She’s something to believe in,” exclaimed jockey Mike Smith after the race, which brought Zenyatta’s career earnings to $6,254,580.
The 2010 Clement L. Hirsch victory is Zenyatta’s third such victory in a row, having nabbed the title for three straight years, according to trainer John Shireffs.
In the 2010 Clement L. Hirsch race on August 7th, Rinterval was second, followed by Princess Taylor in third, Spring Style in fourth, Dance to My Tune in fifth and Made for Magic in sixth.

Thoroughbred horse racing pundits are still pondering whether the two most noteworthy mares of the moment will meet on a racetrack. Zenyatta is already aiming for the 2010 Breeders Cup (to be held in November at Louisville’s Churchill Downs).
Will Rachel Alexandra enter the Breeders Cup as well, and will the 2009 NTRA Horse of the Year race against Zenyatta or in another contest?
For now, Rachel Alexandra is expected to run in the Personal Ensign Stakes at New York’s Saratoga Racetrack the third week of August. Perhaps the Breeders Cup will follow.

Zenyatta, is my one and only love. And, what a love affair this is - 3 years and still going strong. Zenyatta is a pure joy to behold and can make anyone happy. Just the sight of Zenyatta gives me goose bumps and when she comes down the stretch, she takes my breath away. She's simply "The Best".
