The U.S. ladies remain undefeated and will move on to the finals in the softball world championships after beating Japan 4-0 in Caracas, Venezuela on Thursday.
"With Catherine on the mound, there's nothing better ... it makes things a lot easier for our defense," said Jay Miller, U.S. manager, in an interview with U.S.A. Today "She shut the door and they weren't able to score."
This victory was even sweeter since it was payback for the loss to Japan with a score of 1-3 at Bejing in 2008. Japan now has to play Canada for another chance to make it to the finals and face the U.S. team once again. Canada will have a hard time making it past Japan since they barely defeated China 1-0 on Thursday.
The Japanese team blamed its defense for the loss after pitcher Sayuri Yamane gave up four hits and four runs.
