Are you an unnaturally adoring fan of “The Walking Dead?” Were you disappointed that the best part of World War Z was the one CGI wall-crawling scene? Or do you maybe just have a lot of fake blood left over from Halloween? Then this is the ideal weekend to indulge in your zombie fetish.
On Friday, June 20th from 9pm until 2am, the 2014 Chicago Zombie Prom will kick off at Bottom Lounge on West Lake Street. This twenty-one and over event will allow prospective members of the army of the undead to enjoy a free buffet, vote for the Prom King and Queen, win prizes, and dance the night away to “Wonderful Tonight” and “Shout.”
Except that, more than likely, the music will be better than the cliché playlists of the prom scene in every cheesy movie. Indiana performers Wedding Banned will perform throwback hits from the 80s and 90s for every zombie’s enjoyment. Recognized as one of the best cover bands in the Midwest, Wedding Banned may stick to its tradition of selecting a bride and groom to get faux-married on stage at the Zombie Prom. More on Wedding Banned, including a performance video, can be found at http://www.weddingbanned.com/.
As could be expected, zombie makeup and attire are mandatory at the Zombie Prom. But have no fear if you lack a proper undead tux or prom dress. On site zombie makeovers will be available for $10. And make sure to take advantage of the on-site photo booth to memorialize your new look.
Information on Bottom Lounge, ticket sales, and photos from previous events can be found at http://www.zombiepromchicago.com/index.shtml.
Luckily, this is not a weekend for that zombie makeover to go to waste. On Saturday at 3:30pm, the Chicago Zombie March will shuffle through Millennium Park. While Chicago’s annual zombie walk lacks the massive city-wide popularity of the same event in Louisville, this year’s Zombie March will likely follow past years’ routes and take participating members of the walking dead to museum campus, Daley Plaza, Buckingham Fountain, and possibly even the abc7 news station for the 5pm broadcast.
Participants can either use their zombie makeup from Friday night’s Zombie Prom (honestly, staying up all night may even make that gruesome look more convincing) or receive a brand-spanking new makeover from Zombie March hosts Colleen Jones and David Lasley and their crew of expert zombie makeup artists. Bring your favorite shredded clothes and best threatening facial expressions. Just leave the brain appetites at home.
Interested parties who want to scuffle around the city covered in blood can find all of the details about the Chicago Zombie March on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/events/801573513190201/ or at http://chicagozombie.com/, the home for all of Chicago’s zombie-themed events.
