Uncle Darrow's hosted it's annual 'Mardi Gras West Celebration' on Saturday, March 8th in beautiful Marina Del Rey California which also happens to be one of the largest events in the area. Complete with family style dinning and a live stage to provide all the music and plenty of room for anyone who wanted to dance. This was a family friendly event with horse rides, face painting and plenty of smiles, colorful masks and beautiful costumes and we cant forget the great food to make this Mardi Gras celebration the King of Los Angeles.
Mardi Gras, an annual Christian holiday commemorating the traditional feast day before the start of Lent season originally began medieval Europe, mostly Rome. Eventually it spread to France then across Europe before making it America by the late eighteenth century. Talk about a party that travels.
In New Orleans the wearing masks is a must for float riders. This is especially true on Fat Tuesday. Way back in the day during European festivals masks made it possible for people from different social standings to chills with one another, while in New Orleans wearing a mask served to squash racial issues during carnival
Although United Kingdom doesn't name the traditional feast day it is commemorated as Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday. With celebrations taking place in mostly Roman Catholic areas, Saint Louis boasts the second largest celebration outside of New Orleans.

It was so refreshing to see people from all different backgrounds smiling, laughing, dancing, sharing stories and enjoying the best down home cooking as only Uncle Darrow's can provide. Seeing the smiles on all the faces of small kids as they rode horses and had their faces painted along with the looks of joy and great pleasure on the faces of people dancing their hearts out was awesome. Breaking bread with complete strangers while sharing amazing conversations was priceless making this celebration like no other.
